The Child Study Team Process
Purpose: The Child Study Team process exists as a tool to:
Identify students who exhibit “need in academic or behavioral areas”
Share background information on the identified student
Identify problem area(s)
Brainstorm strategies that will assist the student
Define reasonable, measurable goals for the student
Identify “key players” who will assist student in reaching the goals
Determine if the goals have been bet or if further intervention is necessary (follow-up progress review meetings)
Key players:
Classroom teacher
Parents
Counselor
Principal
Also, other professionals may be invited if the child receives services, or may help in the process: example –
Reading support teacher or Reading Supervisor
Speech Clinician
Nurse
Psychologist
Special Education Supervisor
