OVERVIEW
Courses in the Communications Technology: Broadcasting-Graphics program provide opportunities for students to apply knowledge and skills in the field of multimedia technology. Instruction in the program includes audio/visual technology, trouble shooting techniques, computer operation and maintenance, data transmission and management, oral and written communication, math and physics, concept development, layout and design, computer graphics, image capture, audio, video, web-related technologies and animation. Students utlilize state of the art computers, cameras, software and CASD's television studio to produce a daily television program called HERD TV. Opportunities exist for students to produce half hour segments for the local Comcast cable channel. These half hour segments are centered on student interests and promote activities associated with the school district. Students also operate the high school's print shop, creating banners, signs, programs and paper products for the school and community. Many of these items are available for sale at Bison Corner, the high school's student store. The program follows the Pennsylvania Department of Education's approved scope and sequence for Communications Technology; therefore, a Capstone Career Exploratory experience is available to students in the senior year. As a recognized Program of Study, students can take advantage of numerous statewide and local articulation agreements to gain post secondary credits.
