Library Mission

My mission is to make the library a bright, welcoming, and busy place where all students feel safe and comfortable to take learning risks.  Students will be engaged, stimulated, and enjoy learning about how libraries work and are arranged, digital citizenship, electronic and print resources, ethical use of information, research, and a joy of reading.  I want my students to be life-long, inquisitive learners who will seek out information whether in a physical library or in a digital world.

My goals:

Develop a love of reading in students.
  • Create bright, welcoming, organized space which is the heart of the school.
  • Purchase high-quality, award-winning materials.  Please make book suggestions!
  • Participate in the Pennsylvania Young Reader's Choice Program.
  • Encourage the Buck-A-Book Literacy Campaign.
  • Assist with UGI's Reading Is Fundamental (RIF) and Carlisle Kiwanis Book Donations in which students in K, 1, and 2 receive books to keep.
Independently find answers to questions.
  • Teach students to search in the library catalog and locate their own materials.
  • Develop 21st century research and inquiry skills.
  • Engage students in electronic resources as well as digital tools to present their findings.
Collaborate and support classroom teachers with teacher resources.
  • Align units with classroom curriculums.
  • Support teachers with resources and tools.
  • Purchase high-quality resources and materials based on teacher suggestions.
Make library learning engaging and fun.
  • Design engaging, fun, stimulating lessons.
  • Connect to the library curriculum.
  • Enjoy our time together!
  • Try new things, such as through MakerSpace experiences.

Students come to library for 45 minutes once a cycle.  However, they are encouraged to visit at any time during the school day.  Students receive a 30 minute lesson and have 10-15 minutes to check out library materials.

I want your student to love visiting the library!
