Explanation for Closures and Delays

Explanation for Closures and Delays

Each weather situation is unique and carefully managed with many factors in mind. Here are some of the key considerations:

  • Forecast and predicted reliability of forecast to include temperature and wind chill
  • Road conditions based on communication from the bus company, township personnel, borough personnel, and including school district administrators when necessary
  • Condition of buildings to ensure they are operational  (ice, snow, HVAC systems)
  • Conditions for walkers (temperatures, sidewalks)
  • Conditions for inexperienced student drivers
  • Communication with other local superintendents
  • Communication with the Army War College
  • Functionality of school buses in extreme cold temperatures (additional time may be necessary to prepare vehicles)

We also recognize that more than half of Carlisle students are served by the free/reduced meal program, and many students rely on school to provide essential resources and a safe, comfortable environment.

These are just some of the many factors we consider during this complex decision-making process. Please know that every decision is made with thoughtful consideration and is never taken lightly.

As always, students/families who find themselves in unique or unusual situations that would preclude attending school are encouraged to contact their buildings directly to discuss the matter.

Thank you for your continued support.
