Parent Tips and Resources

Parent Tips

  1. Read with your child daily.
  2. Encourage students to use sound tapping and blending strategies to read new words.
  3. Allow students to use their finger or a pencil for tracking to promote fluency while they are reading.
  4. Allow students to use a combination of reading styles- out loud, partner reading with you or a sibling and silent reading.
  5. Repetition is important when learning a new skill and keeping it!
  6. Visualize together. Help your child make a mental picture of what they are reading.
  7. Use board games or card games that you already have at home to help students practice reading flashcards or words sent home to study.
  8. Stay in communication with your child’s teachers.
