Please congratulate Sophia Toti and the Carlisle Girls Cross-Country team. Over the weekend the team placed 9th at the State Championship meet scoring 214 points. The rest of the girls who raced Saturday are Savannah Hossfeld, Gretal Shank, Karlie Powell, Alyssa Dyson, Claire Swenson, and Sophie Salomone. This marks the highest girls team placing at XC States since 1996! Great season girls!

Carlisle at District III Championships

Monday, October 28

The Carlisle Cross Country team competed in the District 3 Championships over the weekend and are once again sending many of our runners on to States. Our Girls team, not only are heading to States as a team, but are doing it as the Champions of a very competitive District 3! Two state ranked teams, were knocked out and not heading on to Hershey next week. Leading the way was our own individual Champion Sophia Toti who won the race in 18 minutes flat which a new Carlisle school record! Following Sophia across the line and heading to States as well are Gretal Shank, Savannah Hossfeld, Alyssa Dyson, Claire Swenson, Karlie Powell, and Sophie Salomone! Way to make Carlisle proud girls!

Our boys team came up just short of a seventh consecutive trip to States as a team, but placed 5th and only 4 teams move on to States. All streaks must come to an end at some point. Leading the way for the Herd was Evan Peachey, who earned himself a district medal and an individual qualification to States next week.

Great job again to our Cross-Country runners and wish them well at States next weekend in Hershey!

Carlisle at Mid-Penn Championships

Monday, October 14

Carlisle Cross-Country teams were in action this past weekend at the Mid-Penn Championships and came away with some outstanding results. On the girls side we were without one of our top runners and still hung close with two of the top ranked teams in the state. Sophia Toti led the way with a 2nd place finish behind Taryn Parks of Greencastle. Also claiming All-Conference honors were Gretal Shank, Alyssa Dyson, Karlie Powell, and Sophie Salomone.

On the boys side we ran a great race and were led by the new Mid-Penn Champion, Casey Padgett. Only Matt Wisner, who is competing at Duke, and Noah Affolder, who is at Oregon have won Individual Mid-Penn Championships for Coach Boardman in Cross-Country, so this was a special performance! Evan Peachey claimed the only other All-Conference medal for the boys, but the pack is coming along and are a young and very talented group.

Both teams now turn their attention to the District 3 Championships where they will line up again in 2 weeks' time.

Following closely behind her were Savannah Hossfeld, Gretal Shank, Alyssa Dyson, Sophie Salomone, and Karlie Powell.

Both Boys and Girls teams end the season at 7-0 and now look forward to prepping for Districts and States!

Carlisle vs State College

Wednesday, September 25

The Carlisle Cross-Country teams hosted State College for the final dual meet of the Commonwealth schedule. On the girls' side the Lady Herd pulled out a thrilling 27-28 victory over one of the top teams in the state of Pennsylvania. Leading the way for the Carlisle girls was Sophia Toti and placing 2nd overall was Gretal Shank. The Lady Little Lions took the 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 6th, but then our trio of Savannah Hossfeld, Alyssa Dyson, and Sophie Salomone nabbed 7th, 8th, and 9th place to seal the win. This win gives the Carlisle Girls' Cross-Country team their 3rd consecutive Commonwealth Division Championship. Congratulations Girls!

Not to be outdone, the Boys' Cross-Country team also pulled out a narrow 25-30 victory over the Little Lions. Leading the way up front were Evan Peachey and Casey Padgett placing 1-2. Kevin Shank, Andrew Booths, and Andrew Diehl all finished in the top 10 to round out the scoring for the Herd. For the 4th year in a row, the Carlisle Boys' Cross Country team have won the Commonwealth Division with an undefeated dual meet record. Congratulations Boys!

Both Boys and Girls teams are now 6-0 on the season with only one non-league match with Lower Dauphin remaining on the dual meet schedule.

Carlisle at Mifflin County/Chambersburg

Wednesday, September 18

The Carlisle Cross-Country teams traveled to Mifflin County on Tuesday to face both the Huskies and the Chambersburg Trojans. On the boys side it was incredibly close and in the end came down to the honesty and integrity of a Chambersburg boy who had been credited by the race official with a finishing time and place that he did not earn. The last time the Carlisle boys had lost a meet was in late September of 2015 and had a dual meet win streak of 29 beginning back in October of 2015. All streaks eventually must end, and as we drove home, we thought this one had, but after discussion between coaches and AD’s we got it straightened out and the Herd did add on to the streak with a 16-41 thrashing of Mifflin County and a 27-28 squeaker win over a solid Chambersburg squad. Casey Padgett won the race for the Herd, with Evan Peachey claiming 3rd. Kevin Shank, Andrew Booths, and Jacob Owen all finished in the top 10, and have guaranteed the Herd will at least share the Commonwealth Division title for the 4th consecutive year, congrats boys!

The girls meet was not short of drama either as it all came down to the last 200 meters of a 3.1 mile race. Sophia Toti took the win, but the Lady Trojans’ top trio claimed 2nd, 3rd, and 4th, which made the meet almost unwinnable...almost. Our Carlisle girls, however, were on a mission and took the next 3 places with Gretal Shank, Savannah Hossfeld, and Sophie Salomone. Then in the final 200m, Alyssa Dyson passed the C-burg #4 AND Karlie Powell passed the C-burg #5 to secure a 27-29 win over the 8th ranked team in Pennsylvania! With that, and the 19-43 win over the Lady Huskies, the Lady Herd also has clinched at least a share of the Commonwealth Division title. Way to go girls!

Both Boys and Girls teams are now 5-0 on the season.

Carlisle at Cumberland Valley/CD East

Wednesday, September 11

The Carlisle Cross-Country teams traveled to Cumberland Valley to face the rival Eagles and also CD East for a double dual meet on Tuesday. The CV boys rolled to the front early and had 7 boys fighting for position with only 3 of ours, but in the end it was the Carlisle trio emerging to a 1-2-3 finish and the meet was over. CV took the next 5 places, but it was not enough to overcome Herd strength at the top. Taking care of business up front were, Casey Padgett, Andrew Booths, and Evan Peachey. Rounding out the team scoring and placing in the top 10 overall were Kevin Shank and Jacob Owen. Herd wins by a final score of 25-30 over CV and 15-46 over CD East.

On the girls’ side, the Lady Eagles have the best top-4 they have had in recent memory, but were still completely overwhelmed by our Lady Herd. Sophia Toti and Savannah Hossfeld provided the 1-2 finish with Gretal Shank also close in 4th place. Then Carlisle girls packed in taking 8th, 9th, 10th, and 11th to cement the victory. The rest of the pack figuring in the scoring was made up of Sophie Salomone, Alyssa Dyson, Karlie Powell, and Claire Swenson. Final scores were Carlisle over Cumberland Valley 24-33 and 15-50 over CD East.

Both Boys and Girls teams are now 3-0 on the season.

Carlisle vs Central Dauphin

Wednesday, September 4

The Carlisle Cross-Country teams opened the dual meet season hosting Central Dauphin on Tuesday afternoon. Both boys’ and girls’ teams are the defending Commonwealth Champions and were given an early season test. Both teams passed with flying colors!

On the boys’ side Casey Padgett ran away from 2 solid Central Dauphin boys and Herd runners packed in taking 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th, and 8th to push the scoring to a 23-36 Herd win. Scorers after Casey were Jacob Owen, Evan Peachey, Ray Bondy, and two freshmen: Kevin Shank and Andrew Diehl.

On the girls’ side, we completely overwhelmed the Lady Rams up front taking the top four spots. Sophia Toti led the way, followed closely by Savannah Hossfeld, Gretal Shank, and Sophie Salomone. Wrapping up the team scoring were Alyssa Dyson and Karlie Powell who came in next which gave the Lady Herd 6 of the top 7 finishers and a final team score of 16-46.
